Plan Commission Approves Dexter’s Pub Expansion and Outdoor Space

Dexter’s Pub, located at 301 North St. (across the street from Emerson East in the Eken Park neighborhood), has plans to expand their building and re-do their outdoor space.

On April 29, Alder Abbas hosted a neighborhood meeting where neighbors voiced concerns (mostly noise and parking). After the meeting the plans were modified in response to neighbor feedback.

On May 6, 2019, Dexter’s conditional use permits were reviewed by the City’s Plan Commission. Dexter’s architect presented altered plans that reduced the number of overhead doors opening towards the patio and a commitment to stop service at the counter serving the patio at 9:30pm, the patio will close at 10:00pm. They are not planning to play music on the patio but music and noise from inside the building might project outside. Additional bike stalls are planned. Dexter’s owner is talking with Bashford Church to get permission to use their lot as overflow parking.

A few Emerson East residents spoke against the application, one in favor. Eken Park neighborhood association and Eken Park residents spoke in favor of the application.

The Commission approved the applications. As with any conditional use, the Plan Commission retains continuing jurisdiction in the event that complaints are received about any of the conditional uses associated with the subject site, which could result in more restrictive conditions being applied if deemed necessary.

According to the information submitted to the City, construction will take place between June and September 2019.

Dexter’s owner, Nick Zabel, is planning to attend the May 15, 2019 EENA monthly meeting.
